originally posted July 5 2013I could bore you with a bunch of numbers and stuff, but I won't. Instead, all I am going to do is tell you that this is a digital camcorder, one which I found to fit my immediate needs... ie, it was good and cheap. If you want the specs, I suggest going to Samsung's Tech Spec page by clicking
this link.
Here is what the camcorder looks like. The lens is positioned that way because, from what I have read, it is more economical. Seems to be true. I am disappointed that I was unable to get this in black or green, but beggars can't be choosers, right?
If you were to check the image info, you would probably see that this is the C14 model. Just want to say same thing, except the C14 has an internal hard drive, while the C10 uses SD cards.
Anyway, the camcorder is to capture the scene of our investigations. We may miss something during our initial investigation that we'd be able to see later on in the video. We also may pick up an image or shadow of something that we couldn't see.
Coupled with the parabolic microphone and tripod, if a noise is detected with the mic, start up the camcorder (or have both running at same time). The tripod allows us to manipulate both at the same time, to have them both pointed at the same target zone. Also, because of its compact design, it can easily be brought into the field.
Are there better camcorders out there? Heck yes. But remember, we're doing this on a budget, without having to rely on Dollar Store technology. And, from all the reviews I've read, this is a nice solid camera that can sell for three times as much as what I purchased it for.
{EDIT}
Ordered a couple extra batteries and a spare charger. With a battery life of roughly 2 1/2 hours, I thought we may need some more coverage.
{EDIT}
This is a nice little camcorder, takes nice footage (can you use the term footage when talking about something digital?). The only downside is the zoom. I don't remember off-hand, but I believe the zoom is 10x or 12x... having some extra zoom would have been greatly appreciated. But, that just comes in time, right? Thing is, this does the job, and it does it well. Well worth the buy.
