Surveillance CameraWhy invest in a CCTV monitoring system when you can download a free shareware program that makes your computer into a CCTV monitoring station? Why invest in security cameras when webcams are cheaper and can produce the same results? Why purchase a DVR if you already own a computer?
(A DVR system is in my plans for a future purchase, don't get me wrong. I'm just trying to work with what I got while remaining in budget.)
My new purchase should hopefully be arriving by next week Friday: a security camera that plugs into your computer or laptop via USB connectivity, and it has IR / night vision capability. This was specifically ordered for an upcoming investigation, as my Sony DCV-DVD108 cannot be used as a webcam. If this works the way I'm planning, it should record everything onto the computer, granting me the ability of many hours of surveillance.
I can't find the specifics at the moment, but when I do I'll post them.
{EDIT}Oh my goodness, this device... had I known how much of a hassle it would be to get this thing running!
You need Windows XP or 7 to operate it, along with Directx 9. Or Mac, or an Android device. The camera is not plug and play (odd, seeing as how it is a USB device). The PDF that comes on the disc does not open. You also will need 1GB of hard drive space for every hour of video per camera used. All of this information would have been good to know prior to purchase!
